Keyless ignition vehicle owners beware! Ten of the big automakers have been sued due to the fact that there are literally millions of Americans out there driving vehicles with defects that could dangerously sicken or kill them. The carmakers involved in the class action lawsuit include Bentley, BMW, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen. The danger comes from carbon monoxide deaths resulting from consumers unknowingly leaving their car running in their garage after taking their key fob in the home with them. The automakers became aware of the problem and started putting an auto shutoff safety feature in newer models, but did not do anything about the estimated five million autos out there with the defective keyless ignition. The lawsuit asserts that the fix for the defect is actually an inexpensive one that automakers did not do, leading to at least thirteen carbon monoxide deaths.
