Two teenagers were able to escape their vehicle just minutes before it was struck by a train near Crescent in Iowa on Tuesday evening.

According to The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department, the teens were driving near Crescent when the driver of the vehicle lost control on a curve and ended up stuck on the train tracks where it was struck by a Union Pacific train.

It appears the driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old girl, was traveling too fast to make the curve. Official’s cited her for failure to maintain control.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, said the sheriff’s office. The investigation is ongoing at this time and no further information is currently available.
